AD 1983
After a career in the steel industry Don establishes his renowned shop selling tools, cutlery, pocket knives, tankards, and gift items. Fondly known by locals and visitors as "The Sheffield Shop."

AD 1937
Don Alexander born in Neepsend, the heart of Sheffield's upper Don Valley steel making and metal-working area.

AD 1913
Harry Brearley, employed by Thomas Firth and Sons, produces first stainless steel. "Firth-Brearley Stainless" a milestone in metallurgical history, the steel that did not rust

AD 1891
15,000 "metal bashers" employed in Sheffield cutlery trade, making world famous products with world famous names

AD c1742
Benjamin Huntsman produces revolutionary new crucible steel, working down the valley from Don's shop. His superior new steel was supplied to Sheffield cutlers, helping establish their reputation for best quality

AD 1621
Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire formed "for the good order and government of the makers of knives, sickles, shears, scissors and other cutlery wares in Hallamshire." (The name Hallamshire lives on in Sheffield. The title Master Cutler is a great honour and the Cutler's annual feast is a major event).

AD 1575
Earl of Shrewsbury sends a case of Sheffield knives to his friend Lord Burghley - an early example of local pride in Sheffield-made.

AD c1340
Geoffrey Chaucer mentions a "Sheffield thwyttle" ( a general purpose knife) in his Canterbury Tales
